Army arrests notorious kidnapper in Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a notorious kidnapper, Suleiman Ahmad, who reportedly extorted over ₦70 million in ransom from victims in Lau Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The arrest took place on Nov 12, 2024, during a sting operation in Maraban Abare, Bomanda, and Karamuke villages, targeting rampant kidnapping activities in the region.

The acting Director, Army Public Relations, Capt. Oni Olubodunde, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday.

He said Ahmad, a resident of Bomanda village, confessed during preliminary investigations to abducting about 20 individuals in Lau Local Government.

Ahmad also admitted owning an AK-47 rifle, which was later recovered during a follow-up operation on November 15.

Capt. Oni Olubodunde said, “Troops recovered the AK-47 rifle from a concealed location and arrested one of Ahmad’s accomplices, identified as Hussaini, a suspected gunrunner, at his residence in the Mayo Dassa area.”

He reassured Nigerians of the Army’s efforts to fight crime, saying, “I want to reaffirm the Army’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of law-abiding residents. We will continue to deploy all necessary resources to protect citizens from the scourge of kidnapping and violent crimes.”
